Go Behind the Scenes with Heesen’s Latest Project, 80.7m M/Y Cosmos

Learn more about Project Cosmos, an 80.07 meter all-aluminium Heesen motor yacht scheduled for delivery in April 2022

Founded in 1978, multi-award-winning Dutch shipyard Heesen is one of the most renowned luxury yacht builders in the world. With a remarkable heritage and a reputation for pushing boundaries, Heesen is responsible for creating some of the most powerful and luxurious superyachts ever built.

Following hot on the heels of award-winning semi-displacement yacht IRISHA, the Dutch shipyard’s newest project is all-aluminium superyacht COSMOS. At 80.7 meters COSMOS will be Heesen’s largest yacht to date as well as the fastest full-aluminium motor yacht with a conventional propeller propulsion system on the water.

The latest in a long line of innovative and groundbreaking projects, COSMOS will combine Heesen’s signature cutting-edge technology with award-winning design. Powered by 4  MTU 20 V 4000 engines with 19 000 hp, she will have a cruising speed of 20 knots and an impressive top speed of almost 30 knots.

Setting new standards for design and construction, COSMOS will be built using Heesen’s patented Backbone® method and equipped with smart technology throughout. A sleek and powerful superyacht, she will be fitted with a Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) for increased efficiency and comfort when cruising.

With 6 generously-sized staterooms, she will have accommodation for 12 guests including a magnificent master suite on the main deck. Her interiors will be styled by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design representing Heesen’s third collaboration with the award-winning Dutch design company.

British studio Winch Design has been appointed to carry out COSMOS’ exterior styling which will reflect her owner’s superyacht vision and lifestyle. Notable features will include a fully-rated helicopter landing pad which can be transformed into an open-air cinema plus a glass-bottomed swimming pool and vast beach club.

Working with long-standing partners Van Oossanen Naval Architects and Rolls-Royce, Heesen recently carried out physical tank testing using a 3.7 meter scale model of the yacht. Following the tests, Heesen and Rolls-Royce were able to fine-tune the propeller design to ensure COSMOS will meet both speed and efficiency requirements.

With her propulsion system currently in the last stages of testing, her keel-laying ceremony is due to take place in May 2019 followed by delivery in April 2022. Representing a major milestone for Heesen, COSMOS promises to raise the bar once again for the iconic Dutch shipyard.
